SEATTLE, Wash. — There’s a possibility that the Nooksack River will reach flood stage later this week.

Wet weather systems have begun moving into the area as of Monday, lasting several days.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service expect the river level at Ferndale to crest Thursday at about the 17-foot mark, which is below the Minor Flood Stage range of 18 to 20 feet but within the Action Flood Stage range of 15 to 18 feet.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents not to attempt to drive through water that is running or standing on the road and to have an alternate route in mind.
