WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The Nooksack Tribe is offering more detail about a lawsuit that has put its evictions of disenrolled people on hold.

A panel of state Supreme Court justices last week granted an injunction against the evictions while it considers whether to take up the case.

The tribe says those being evicted brought the lawsuit against the Washington State Housing Finance Commission and its partners, which are financing vehicles.

The tribe says it owns, maintains and controls the properties, and the entities being sued do not.

The tribe expresses confidence that the court will dismiss the case after reviewing the facts.

The people being evicted are among more than 300 the Nooksack Tribe says aren’t eligible to be members and formally removed in 2016 and 2018.
