WASHINGTON PASS, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Transportation has announced that the North Cascades Highway will be closing earlier than planned for the season.
The 40-mile stretch of road from the Ross Dam Trailhead to the Silver Star Gate will shut down for the winter Wednesday, November 10th, at 6 p.m.
Officials say the forecast over the next 24 hours puts the area at a higher risk of avalanches.
The road was originally set to close on the 15th, but WSDOT says that date was subject to change in the event of an unfavorable forecast.
