LYNDEN, Wash. — For the first time since the summer of 1945, The Northwest Washington Fair will not go on.

The Fair Board unanimously voted to postpone the 2020 event until August 16-21, 2021, based on recommendations from the Whatcom County Health Department to cancel large events in order to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Assistant Manager Chris Pickering says they needed to give notice to the livestock handlers, carnival operators and all the other people involved in the fair.

Staff members do still hope to help make memories this summer.

Manager Jim Baron says they are still committed to achieving their mission, including agricultural education, competition, and bringing people together and they’ll develop new events to be held at the Lynden fairgrounds once it’s safe to do so.
