OLYMPIA, Wash. — The National Rifle Association is suing to block the voter-approved gun control measure in Washington.
I-1639 has 60 percent of the vote and raises the legal age to buy semi-automatic rifles and implements punishments for gun owners who don’t lock away their firearms, among other new requirements.
The NRA and the Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation filed the lawsuit against the State of Washington and Attorney General Bob Ferguson on Thursday, saying I-1639 violates the Constitution and encroaches on federal regulations regarding interstate commerce.
