BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Whatcom County residents got a chance over the weekend to use a trail that’s usually only seen by Ski to Sea Cyclocross competitors.
The trail running just west of the airport is on land owned by the Port of Bellingham and is usually off limits to the public.
But Heather Carter with the Whatcom County Parks Foundation says it was open for a few hours on Saturday and could someday be part of a much larger trail system.
“The Whatcom County parks and Recreation Foundation is supporting this effort to create a 44, approximately, mile trail that loops around Whatcom County. So, Bellingham to Ferndale out to lynden, to Everson and back into Bellingham.”
Also on Saturday, volunteers started work on a new trail in the new Lake Whatcom Park.
