SEATTLE, Wash (AP)-A man named the 2010 Seattle Police Officer of the Year has cost the city $165,000 in civil rights lawsuits for his handling of several altercations since then.
The Seattle Times reports a court ruled on Monday that the city pay $150,000 after Officer Benjamin Kelly shot and seriously injured a convicted burglar in 2014.
In 2010, Kelly was honored for shooting fugitive Maurice Clemmons who had shot and killed four Lakewood officers in a coffee shop.
