Washington, D.C. — The U.S./Canada border will remain closed for another month.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Trump both confirmed the extension through June 21st.
While it’s been closed to non-essential crossers since early March, the border has remained open to commercial traffic.
But Dr. Laurie Trautman with Western’s (WWU) Border Policy Research Institute says shipments have been down.
British Columbia has lower infection rates than Washington and the rest of the U.S., and she expects Canadian consumers to be slow to return to Whatcom County.
One bright spot for divided families is that Peace Arch Park in Blaine is open for personal visits.
