BELLINGHAM, Wash. – That old castle-looking house on Forest Street that caught fire Monday was home to the last mayor of Fairhaven.
The Alfred L. Black House in the 100 block of Forest was built in 1903.
Black was the mayor of Fairhaven when it became part of Bellingham.
The fire department says flames and smoke damaged the roof and attic of the turret.
There was water damage throughout the house.
A worker using a propane torch to heat up paint accidentally started the blaze.
Two firefighters were treated at Saint Joseph Hospital for heat related issues and released the same day.
