SKAGIT COUNTY, Wash.- Skagit County has a new jail and some elected officials want to turn the old jail into a homeless shelter.

But, the Skagit Valley Herald reports the county doesn’t seem interested.

Plans call for the Sheriff’s Office and District Court to expand into the jail.

Other county departments are also eyeing the space.

The County Administrator said the cost of turning the jail into a shelter would be higher than many people realize.
