OLYMPIA, Wash. – A subvariant of omicron has been detected in Washington State.
The state Health Department confirmed two cases of the subvariant called BA.2 in Washington earlier this month.
There have been fewer than 100 confirmed cases nationwide.
The World Health Organization reports BA.2 has been spreading fast around the globe.
Whether it’s more infectious than the omicron variant and how effective vaccines are against it aren’t yet known.
