SEATTTLE, Wash. – The subvariant of omicron that’s fueled an increase of COVID-19 cases in Europe is also spreading here.

Dr. Alex Greninger with UW Medicine’s virology lab says the BA.2 subvariant is accounting for about 25% of the tests they’re processing.

He says the relaxation of COVID-related restrictions we’re enjoying may not last…

He says to travel now, as he expect an increase in cases that will affect the health care system once again.

But bright spots are that vaccination and previous omicron infections do appear to prevent or reduce the severity of BA.2 infections.
