CARBONADO, Wash. – A woman is in the hospital after the Jeep she was in went off a cliff near the Mount Rainier National Park and fell about 1,000 feet.

The man that was with her was found dead in the Jeep Saturday evening.

The Olympian reports Ky Dewald was with friends nearby when they heard about the crash and went to help the woman.

Dewald tells the Olympian the woman was thrown from the Jeep before it hit the ground and that’s what saved her.

He stayed with the woman who was about 600 feet down the cliff until rescue crews could get to her and get her to Harborview.

Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says the woman was still in critical condition as of Sunday.
