BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Our local Opportunity Council is one of 5 projects statewide to benefit from grants meant to help students and families experiencing homelessness.

The state’s Department of Commerce awarded the Opportunity Council $265,000 to expand its support efforts by putting case managers in schools, with the ability to travel throughout the county to meet families in convenient locations.

A housing specialist will also provide ongoing assistance with finding and keeping permanent housing for people who do not have access to other programs.

The funding will also allow Northwest Youth Services to provide more help to the county’s homeless youth.
