EVERETT, Wash. — An Oso man has been convicted of murdering his neighbors and hiding their bodies.
The Daily Herald reports 55-year-old John Reed was convicted Wednesday for shooting and killing a former Whatcom County couple, later hiding their bodies along a remote logging road before fleeing to Mexico.
Reed’s brother pleaded guilty to helping hide the bodies and was sentenced to 14 months in jail.
Patrick Shunn and Monique Patenaude had reported Reed to police for squatting on his sold property.
Reed testified that he was forced to act in self-defense.
State law only allows for a life sentence for the crimes Reed has been convicted of.
He’ll be sentenced in July.
