DEMING, Wash. — Crews rescued a 25-year-old hiker using a complex rope system in the dark Saturday night after the hiker fell into Racehorse Creek near Kendall.

Several rescue organizations say the woman slipped while taking photos and was swept down stream before using a rock to pull herself out of the water, just feet from Racehorse Falls, a rocky fifty foot drop.

The rescue included collaboration between Bellingham Mountain Rescue Council, Whatcom County Search and Rescue Council, Summit to Sound Search and Rescue, and Border Protection officers.

Whatcom Fire District 14 says similar incident happened at Racehorse Falls last year.
