MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — A woman pleaded guilty to charges related to her role in a five-vehicle crash that killed a 49-year-old Sedro-Woolley woman.
According to the Skagit Valley Herald, Lucia Luna Morales pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of second-degree manslaughter and one count of reckless driving in the December 2015 crash that killed Jill Elwick.
Luna Morales was sentenced to one year in jail, with the option to serve her sentence on work release.
Luna Morales is the second person to plead guilty in Elwick’s death.
Michael John Stephenson pleaded guilty to one count of vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular assault for the crash and was sentenced to 20 months in prison.
Prosecutors argued that Luna Morales and Stephenson were intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Sentences for the pair were lower than the standard, with the Skagit County Judge saying that the facts in the case were somewhat murky.
