OAK HARBOR, Wash. – A pastor was sentenced last week for stealing donations destined for families impacted by the Oso landslide.

Gary Ray stole funds from Oso families, collection plates, and his own church congregations in Snohomish and Island counties.

Island County Superior Court Judge Alan Hancock sentenced Ray to 18 months in prison and said the court was appalled by his shameful fraud and theft, his betrayal, and abuse of trust.

The Highway 530 landslide swallowed a square mile and an entire neighborhood along the North Fork Stillaguamish River in March 2014, killing 43 people.
