BLAINE, Wash. – Loved ones separated by the US-Canada border closure are reuniting in Blaine.

Laurie Trautman with Western’s Border Police Research Institute says Peace Arch Park gives people the rare chance to meet in person.

She said, “people can come from B.C. and Washington, and meet in the park to at least see their family now without having to actually cross the border.”

Visitors from both sides are allowed to cross inside the park in Blaine without having to display a passport, which has made it a reunion spot for families, couples, and friends who are separated while the border is closed to nonessential travel amid the global pandemic.
