MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Another phone scam is making the rounds.
The Skagit County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam where callers pose as deputies, claim a subpoena has been issued for the arrest of the person receiving the call, and ask for money.
Chief of Field Services Chris Baldwin told the Skagit Valley Herald that the scammers are using a spoofed Sheriff’s Office phone number and the names of actual Sheriff’s Office employees on the calls.
He asks anyone who thinks they have been a victim to call Skagit 911 Dispatch.
