BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A small but determined group of Black Lives Matter protesters took to downtown Bellingham streets Monday afternoon.

They first entered the City Hall lobby where Mayor Seth Fleetwood held an impromptu dialogue with them and took their questions about policing, racial justice and other issues.

They then marched downtown and blocked a stretch of Holly Street.

Police asked them to disperse and the mayor joined them for another discussion.

He said he couldn’t guarantee their demands including to defund the police department but that he’ll continue to listen.
