POINT ROBERTS, Wash. —Â Point Roberts is offering their excess COVID-19 vaccines to their neighbors across the border.
Fire Chief Christopher Carleton says his isolated Whatcom County community is pretty well covered and they’d like to be able to give their extras to American citizens living in British Columbia.
He said it would be a win-win for both countries if people were vaccinated in Point Roberts without having to isolate for 14 days when returning to Canada.
And Carleton says Canadian citizens who have property in Point Roberts could take a “vaccine vacation,” but the decision rests with higher authorities.
He added that every extra person vaccinated makes the community safer, and he hopes that the powers in B.C. and Washington state will see it as a win-win.
Canada has been struggling to provide vaccines and many of our neighbors to the north might not get them for months.
