MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A Mount Vernon man was arrested early Monday morning after an hours long standoff with law enforcement stemming from a domestic dispute.

Mount Vernon Police say they were called to the scene at about 10:40 PM Sunday night after reports that a man was pointing what the victim described as a “machine gun” at her and a boy and threatened to kill them.

They escaped before police arrived and the area was evacuated while a Crisis Negotiation Team tried to talk with the 34-year-old man.

Neighboring houses were evacuated as a precaution, and Washington State Patrol, Skagit County Sheriff’s Office and the Burlington Police Department were on hand to assist with containment.

After three hours, officers entered the home and arrested the man without incident.

Police did not identify the man or the kind of weapon he used.
