RICHLAND, Wash. – Police have arrested a suspect in yesterday’s fatal shooting at a Fred Meyer store in Richland.
KOMO reports the suspect, 39-year-old Aaron Christopher Kelley, was found and arrested on I-90 in eastern Washington last night, Monday, February 8th.
He’s being transported back to the Tri-Cities to face first degree murder and other charges for the shooting that left one customer dead and another person critically wounded.
Robert Cronkite works next door and says the gunman made a clean getaway.
“The guy that did, that they have on tape, he literally walked out of there casually pushing a shopping cart,” said Cronkite. “He walks out. He gets in his white Dodge pickup, and they guy drives off.”
He says people were stunned.
“You see it and you think it happens in Chicago and it happens in Detroit,” said Cronkite. “It happens in Richland, Washington.”
Screenshots from store surveillance footage show the suspect was wearing a plaid shirt with a dark-colored down vest, a black gaiter or scarf pulled over his nose, light-colored pants and athletic shoes.
Police haven’t released a motive or more information about Kelley, the victims or circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Fred Meyer released a statement expressing condolences and support for those affected by the shooting.
