BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham police closed a portion of Northwest Avenue on Tuesday while they responded to a shots fired call.

Lieutenant Claudia Murphy told KGMI officers were dispatched to the residence in the 3900 block of Northwest around noon Tuesday when they learned that the suspect, Thomas Skondin, had discharged a weapon in the backyard and was threatening to shoot his roommates after a disagreement.

Skondin was reportedly intoxicated and still in possession of the firearm, prompting the BPD SWAT team utilizing the BearCat armored rescue vehicle to take action.

They used a public address system to call out to Skondin to exit the house free of weapons.

He was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Whatcom County Jail.
