BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Authorities are warning of another scam affecting residents of Whatcom County.
The Bellingham Police Department says people are receiving credit and debit cards from Chase Bank after scammers fraudulently opened new accounts in their name.
The BPD says that it does not look like the scammers have stolen money, but victims must close the accounts immediately to avoid hits to their credit score.
They ask that anyone who receives a card in the mail that they did not request contact the police and a local Chase bank branch to report it.
