BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Neglecting your seat belt will put you at high risk of a traffic ticket this month.

Local police forces in Whatcom and Skagit counties will be on high alert during the state’s annual Click it or Ticket campaign.

The Washington Traffic Commission says the campaign will run from May 14 to June 3.

Anyone under 8 or smaller than 4’9” must be secured in a booster seat or child safety restraint system.

Kids under 13 must sit in the back seat if they can’t be properly secured in front seat restraints.

Washington passed a primary seat belt law in 2002, meaning police can take action if they spot motorists without them.

The penalty comes with a $124 fine.
