SEATTLE, Wash. — A new poll finds that while the political divide between Eastern and Western Washington remains deep and wide, the sides are pretty close with a dislike for the Trump administration’s trade tariffs.

In the Crosscut/Elway poll conducted earlier this month 43% of Western Washington residents say the tariffs have had a negative impact on their finances, while 35% of Eastern Washington echoes that.

About the same number on both sides say the tariffs have had no effect.

But big differences remain on the economy overall, with 39% of Western Washington bullish on the state’s economy but just a quarter of Eastern Washington agreeing.

Both sides are kind of gloomy on the future prospects of the state’s economy with just a quarter on both sides saying they expect it to improve over the next year.
