PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. — A Port Townsend man was arrested Monday on suspicion of molesting a child he brought with him on a trip to Canada.
U.S. Attorney Brian T. Moran announced 62-year-old John Whicher was arrested on a complaint charging him with two counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place.
That crime is punishable by up to thirty years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
In August 2017, Whicher reportedly took a 6-year-old child on a surprise trip to Canada to stay at a family cabin without informing the child’s parent.
When the child returned, they told their parent Whicher molested them.
The case is being investigated by the Department of Homeland Security.
