WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Not much changed in the preliminary election results after Wednesday night’s count.

The Whatcom County Jail tax is still looking at defeat with only 41 percent in favor and 58 percent rejecting it.

Councilmembers Rud Browne and Todd Donovan have solid leads over their opponents in Districts 1 and 2.

Tyler Byrd is holding on to 54 percent of the vote in the County Council District 3 race.

For the County Council At-Large position, Barry Buchanan has pulled further ahead of Mary Kay Robinson, now by about 2,000 votes, putting him at 52 percent.

The races for the two Port Commissioner seats are still extremely close with Ken Bell taking a 51 percent lead.

But in the Port Commissioner District 1 race, Michael Alvarez Shepard has just barely overtaken Dan Robbins and is leading by less than 1,000 votes.

Bellingham City Council incumbents Roxanne Murphy and Michael Lilliquist maintain comfortable leads over their opponents.

The Auditor’s office currently has about 7,000 votes on hand to count and will release another round of results this evening at 5:00.

Mail-in ballots are still coming in.
