OLYMPIA, Wash –  The Washington Department of Ecology has proposed a new rule designed to reduce pollution in Puget Sound and which would impact boaters in the Juan de Fuca Strait.

The Vessel Sewage No Discharge Zones rule would prohibit release of sewage from commercial and recreational vessels, with exceptions for tugboats and in emergency situations.

The rule would apply to Washington State inland waters from the Canadian border south.

Ecology will host two webinars November 13th to receive comments.

The Department says the rule is five years in the making.
