SEATTLE, Wash. (AP) — Three Ukrainians were arrested in a hacking plot that hit forty-seven states and now face charges in Seattle.
U.S. Attorney Annette Hayes says the sophisticated international hacking group known as FIN7 or Carbanak targeted restaurants, casinos and other businesses to steal about 15 million debit and credit card records from 3,600 separate business locations.
Chipotle, Arby’s and Red Robin are among the companies affected and losses total in the tens of millions of dollars.
The FBI said the operation is one of the largest cybercrime cases they’ve handled.
Hayes says while they’re “under no illusions” they shut down the group completely, they have dealt a significant blow.
