SEATTLE, WASH. (AP) – Puget Sound Energy gets hit with a nearly $3 million fine for a Seattle explosion.
The natural gas explosion in the Greenwood neighborhood last year damaged about three dozen businesses and injured nine firefighters.
A pipeline left active despite being abandoned 12 years earlier was blamed for the blast.
The state Utilities and Transportation Commission says violations include improper pipeline deactivation and failure to perform gas leak surveys and corrosion tests.
The fine is the result of a settlement between PSE and regulators, but still must be approved by the full commission.
