MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Skagit County officials approved a ban on public smoking and vaping.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports the new law would ban smoking and vaping within 25 feet of the door of any place of employment and at public spaces where children may be present, like parks and beaches.
Public health officials say the ban would model good behavior to young people and reduce negative impacts of secondhand smoke.
The owner of a Mount Vernon vape shop worries the move will discourage smokers that use his shop as a meeting place as they try to quit smoking cigarettes.
The ban will go into effect in 90 days.
