BELLINGHAM, Wash. – An impaired driver made a convenient stop in Bellingham as he was being pursued by officers.
Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy said that officers observed a car making an unsafe turn onto the Guide early Tuesday morning, July 19th.
The driver, 64-year-old Donald Matthiesen, stopped and got out of the car in a parking lot.
Responding officers noticed foil, often used to ingest drugs, near the steering wheel.
When asked for his information, Matthiesen got back in the driver’s seat and took off.
For four miles, Matthiesen drove erratically, nearly hitting a patrol car at one point.
He eventually stopped his car right in front of the Whatcom County Jail, where he was taken into custody.
