SEATTLE, WASH. (AP) – A King County toddler may have contracted a rare disease linked to roundworm eggs found in raccoon droppings.

The child was in the hospital, but is now at home recovering.

People can become infected if they swallow dirt or other materials contaminated with raccoon droppings.

Only 29 cases have been reported since 1973 in the U.S., none in Washington.

The infection can be fatal.
