SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Ranchers are suing the U.S. Department of Agriculture in an effort to return labels to meat that clearly indicate it was produced in and imported from other countries.
The lawsuit was filed Monday in federal court in Spokane, Washington.
They want to overturn a March 2016 decision that allowed imported meat to be sold as U-S products instead of being labeled with their country of origin.
Between 2009 and 2016, the USDA required country-of-origin labeling on meat.
