BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The hand recount of Whatcom County ballots was completed and results were certified Wednesday.
The Auditor’s Office found some discrepancies on ballots during the recount and removed three votes for Republican Doug Ericksen and two for Democratic challenger Pinky Vargas in the race for the 42nd District State Senator.
They also removed a vote for Democrat Justin Boneau in the race for 42nd District State Representative.
Both races were neck and neck, but the incumbents ended up on top with Ericksen ahead of Vargas by 45 votes and Luanne Van Werven ahead of Justin Boneau by 81, according to numbers from the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office.
