BELLINGHAM, Wash. — With less than 100 votes separating two candidates running against 2nd Congressional District Representative incumbent Rick Larsen, Whatcom and four other counties will be subject to a mandatory manual recount.
A Whatcom County Canvassing Board meeting Thursday in the Auditor’s office will authorize the recount.
The Secretary of State must call for a recount when candidates are within a certain threshold of votes and County Canvassing Boards determine when to hold the recount.
Brian Luke, who is running as a Libertarian, and Gary Franco, who is running as an Independent, are separated by 66 votes.
Preliminary election results were certified on Tuesday.
