SAN JUAN ISLAND, Wash. – Recovery work continues on the wreck of a fishing boat that sank off the west coast of San Juan Island on August 13th.
The Coast Guard says a salvage team has anchored a barge with a crane at the site, and divers are preparing for the dangerous job of getting the wreckage ready to be lifted from the bottom.
The Aleutian Isle is 200 feet down and divers will remove debris and seal fuel tank vents to prevent more pollution.
Weather, tides and currents will limit the amount of time divers can work.
The salvage operation is expected to take about 10 days.
There is a no-fly zone for drones and other private aircraft around the recovery site.
