SEATTLE, Wash. – As expected, ferry service in Washington is down.

The state DOT adjusted service earlier this year due to COVID-19 concerns, using fewer vessels and reducing the number of crossings per day.

The DOT announced Thursday those changes would remain in place with the option for phased service changes based on COVID-19 recovery as well as other factors.

As the department enters what is normally their peak season, they will not be increasing the number of sailings.

Ridership is down more than 60% this year and the Department of Transportation is currently losing millions in revenue from the gas tax, state ferry farebox recovery, and more.
