WASHINGTON, D.C. — Drought-stricken farmers who were forced to sell their livestock may have more time to replace them.
The IRS announced that drought-stricken farmers and ranchers in Whatcom County may be eligible for relief that would allow them an additional year to replace lost livestock and defer tax on any gains from the forced sales.
The extension gives eligible farmers and ranchers until the end of the tax year after the first drought-free year to replace the sold livestock.
