BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Officials believe they found the remains of a Bellingham snowboarder missing in the Mt. Baker wilderness for nearly a year.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says two snowboarders — Jacob Amancio and Drew Lenz — were reported missing in 2017 and areas around the ski area had been checked repeatedly since.
Sheriff’s deputies were contacted on the evening of September 29 after local hikers discovered what appeared to be belongings of one of the missing snowboarders.
Search and Rescue personnel from multiple agencies made trips to the remote area this week and the Sheriff’s Office says the remains have been turned over to the Whatcom County Medical Examiner for ID.
