RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – A trial is underway for a Renton man accused of trying to kill a Highway Patrol trooper in South Dakota in 2015.

Donald Willingham was traveling with three other people when Trooper Zachary Bader pulled them over for speeding on Interstate 90.

Prosecutors said Willingham beat Bader after Bader smelled marijuana in the vehicle and asked to search it.

Willingham is accused of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault and drug charges.
