SEATTLE, Wash. – Republican activists in Washington state are organizing surveillance of ballot drop boxes.
Signs were posted near ballot boxes in the Seattle area warning voters that they were “under surveillance.”
A group called “WA Citizens United to Secure Ballot Boxes” is promoting drop box surveillance and encouraging people to take video of voters dropping off ballots.
The group wants people to take video when they see voters “dumping an in ordinate (sic) amount of ballots” off.
It is legal to observe ballot boxes, but King County elections officials are concerned that the signs could intimidate voters.
Washington state law allows voters to drop off legal mail-in ballots for other voters.
Ballots for the August primaries in Washington state have been mailed to voters and they are due by or must be postmarked no later than August 2nd.
