OLYMPIA, Wash. — Some researchers and the Coast Guard are still looking for the young ailing orca known as J50, which hasn’t been spotted since September 10 and is presumed dead.

NOAA Fisheries said as of Friday that contingency plans were in the works to save the orca should they find her.

Meanwhile, the leaders of Governor Jay Inslee’s Southern Resident Orca Task Force say after months of meetings and deliberations, they will present recommendations for public comment on September 24.

Governor Inslee created the task force in March of this year to come up with plans for long-term recovery and sustainability for the endangered resident orcas.
