WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Human sexuality is in the news, but it just so happens that murder hornet sexuality is too.

Research done in China finds traps baited with chemicals from the sex pheromone of Asian giant hornet queens attracted lots of male Asian giant hornets and no other insects.

The study published in the journal ScienceNews says the traps could be most useful during the hornets’ mating season in the fall.

The Washington Department of Agriculture last week launched a more traditional trapping program for the invasive hornets using rice wine and other ingredients in Whatcom County and Northwest Washington.
