BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. — Researchers spotted a group of southern resident orcas near Bainbridge Island Friday and say they look happy and healthy.
The J and K pods have been seen several times over the last week and KOMO says some orcas were even seen ‘surfing’ in the wake of a large ship.
NOAA Fisheries scientists said there’s no sight of the “peanut-head” condition like in the past, which suggests the animals are gaining weight.
Scientists spotted a female calf on Thursday that they say was born before July.
