BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Local residents have been experiencing some sticker shock when opening their bills for garbage and recycling service.

Sanitary Service Company says a number of factors have forced them to increase rates by 30%.

Those include a big jump in recycling fees, higher labor costs and increased insurance rates.

A post on SSC’s website says they realize it’s a difficult time for many to pay more, but they put off the increase as long as possible.
