The final stretch of Mt Baker Highway to Artist Point has reopened, but long-term repairs are still needed.

Temporary repairs to the crumbling wall that forced last year’s early closure have been completed.

At that time WSDOT crews removed a section of the wall to keep it from falling on recreation areas below, including Heather Meadows Visitor Center, Chain Lakes Loop trailhead and Austin Pass Picnic area.

Although the highway closed early last year to reduce the risk of an uncontrolled collapse over the winter, there is currently no funding for long-term repairs.
